When I joined Gengy's Palmerston North as a director, all Gengy's Restaurant branches were still using the reservation system I had developed back in 2013 during my time at Gengy's Management. While the system was user-friendly, it needed improvements to boost table turnover by reducing no-shows.
After analyzing the reservation and table management process, I researched various booking systems and selected TableAgent.com, which offered excellent table management features and was free to use. To further enhance the system, I developed a bulk text messaging application that automatically sent messages to customers, asking them to confirm their reservations with a simple "Yes" or "No" reply. This streamlined the process of securing tables by importing the booking list directly from TableAgent. Email confirmations had proven less effective as customers often failed to check and respond in time, leading to tables remaining unused until we received their confirmation. I also developed a cost calculator that provides customers with a clear estimate of their group dining expenses, fostering greater confidence in their budget and streamlining the reservation process.
Implementing my application alongside TableAgent significantly improved the customer experience and reduced no-shows, ultimately increasing table turnover. This proved particularly valuable during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic.
